Welcome from the Principal Susan Dwane
Thank you for visiting our website. Below, I describe our history, philosophy and objectives.
Rockboro School was founded 40 years ago in 1969 with the objective of bringing the best out of its pupils by providing a broad curriculum in an establishment of small class size (a limit of 20 pupils per class has applied since 1969), and in a co-educational and multi-denominational framework.

Aims and philosophy
Teachers and parents work together in providing an environment where-
- Individual growth of character is fostered in your child so as to contribute to greater understanding and tolerance between groups by treating differences of outlook and approach as part of the pattern of normal living.
- Our objective is to maximise the development of your children’s intellectual and physical abilities. Also, at Rockboro we aim to give each child a greater desire for knowledge and an appreciation of other pupils, in the belief that each child has his/her own valuable contribution to make in the School.
- Overall, Rockboro seeks both to nurture a spirit of achievement in all pupils, and to equip them academically, emotionally and spiritually for life.
Individual attention
- In Pre-school, the pupil/teacher ratio is 6:1, much lower than the HSE mandated 10:1. Three teachers are employed, and the maximum daily attendance is 20 children.
- In Primary School, a very low pupil to teacher ratio of 20 per class facilitates individual attention, and ensuring optimal imparting of discipline.
- Pupils are encouraged to give of their best, to enjoy school life, and to keep the School rules and code of conduct.
Integration
- Most of our pupils are Irish born. Nevertheless, boys and girls from many different countries come to Rockboro, thereby enriching its character.
Religious instruction
- Staff and children come together each morning to worship as one, but all are encouraged to honour their own families’ religious affiliations.
Rockboro’s Constitution
- The School is established as Rockboro School Association, a registered Charity. Consequently, any financial surplus can be used only for educational purposes.
- The General Committee of the Association which runs the School is composed of parents and ex-parents, elected annually. Implementation of the School’s educational and disciplinary policies is the responsibility of the Principal and her staff.
To summarise, I will be delighted to meet prospective parents, show you our premises and playing grounds, and explain our policies, practices and track record. If for some reason I am not available our Vice-Principal Ms Aoife Healy or our secretary Mrs Patricia O'Callaghan may fill in for me.
Do contact us by telephone or E-mail.
